Like most people I enjoy playing video games. I've played on a lot of consoles including: The Amiga, Commador 64, Atari, Nes and the Playstation 1 and 2, in addition to the consoles listed below which I still have.

Consoles and handheld's I currently possess:

Super Nintendo

Sega Mega Drive

Nintendo 64

Nintendo GameCube

PSP

Nintendo DS

Nintendo Wii

Point is I love playing video games a lot, but until a few years ago, I never considered what went into making video games. My perspective would change when my mother bought a game called Creatures 2 Deluxe. Creatures is a series of artifical life games where you raise these tiny critters called norns, teaching them to feed themselves and so on until they are ready to breed and give birth to more norns. Anything else you want to know about the Creatures series can be found on their Wiki.

People were encouraged to make their own norn breeds using a variety of tools (including a genetics kit to make the breed's genome). I attempted to make a Norn breed myself, but found the editing of images for the norns tedious (And besides i'm not a good artist by any means). I did tinker around more with existing norn's genomes... trying to create  different effects by tweeking bits of their genome.

Little did I know that this would be the start of my interest into the programming side of games. Late last year(2010), I enrolled on an online course to learn all about the programming of games.  Since it is an online course, I can study any time I want as long as I complete the course by a certain date ( September 2013 if I recall). Currently I am learning the basics of the C++ Language and find it all very fasinating and interesting.
